Signs that your baby is ready include being able to sit with a little support, holding their head steady, and showing interest in food.

The Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) emphasizes complementary feeding that is timely, adequate, safe, and given responsively. Meals should be complete, containing carbohydrates, animal protein, plant protein, fat, as well as vegetables and fruit. Animal proteins such as eggs, chicken liver, fish, and meat are especially important because they are rich in iron. Start with a smooth puree, then gradually progress to minced textures and family foods according to your baby’s age.

Avoid adding too much sugar and salt, and do not give honey before one year of age. Keep hands and feeding utensils clean, and create a pleasant mealtime atmosphere without forcing your child to eat. Continue breastfeeding until two years of age.

If your little one often refuses to eat, is not gaining weight, or shows allergic reactions such as a rash or vomiting, Mom can consult a pediatrician, including through DokterIN.

Complementary feeding begins when your baby is six months old, with nutritionally complete meals and gradually changing textures.
