Early Flu Symptoms and How to Tell Them Apart from the Common Cold
Influenza (the flu) and the common cold are both caused by viruses and have similar symptoms, but they differ in severity. The flu usually comes on suddenly with a high fever, muscle aches, headache, and significant fatigue.
The common cold, on the other hand, develops more slowly with milder symptoms such as a stuffy nose, sneezing, and an itchy throat, without a high fever. Knowing these differences is important so that the right treatment can be given.
For both conditions, getting plenty of rest, drinking lots of water, and maintaining good nutrition can speed up recovery. However, if your flu symptoms are accompanied by shortness of breath, a high fever that does not go down, or last more than a week, you should consult a doctor promptly for further examination.
